I also get variable results.
I've just used a 2Gig USB stick to install server 20.04 on a fanless
industrial motherboard by Jetway. When I tried to use the disk creator
on my desktop computer, a maybe 12 years old machine that I built with
an AMD X2 and running Mint 17, it just wouldn't work. Kept saying the
USB drive hadn't enough space.
Instead using my little Toshiba netbook with Atom processor running
Mint 18 it works absolutely perfectly.
I notice that there is also something called USB Image Writer under
accessories on Mint 18 that says it makes a bootable USB stick. I've
not tried using that one, only just noticed it is there.
