Dear List,
The ongoing saga of of my scanner woes.
As I mentioned in a previous posting, my computer failed. When I
transferred the HDs to the new (2nd hand) computer I bought to replace
it the scanner was not working.
(BTW. this has nothing to do with a change in the OS version. The
scanner has worked just fine from Ubuntu 10.04 – 11.10 on one computer
and 12.04 – 16.04 the one that just failed.)
In an effort to get the scanner working, I tried adding missing data to
the package, brscan. Unfortunately I broke it.
Now, every time I start Synaptic I get this error message.
E: The package brscan2 needs to be reinstalled, but I
can't find an archive for it.
E: Internal error opening cache (1). Please report.
When I click the OK button Synaptic shuts down.
Thank you so much Mr. Echols for the information about the Brother
install script. I haven't been to that page since 2010 when I 1st
downloaded the Linux drivers. While there I also found a newer version
the brscan-skey package.
Unfortunately brscan2, mfc240ccupswrapper, and mfc240clpr don't have all
the data they are supposed to have. In particular 'Section,' 'Priority,'
and 'Installed-Size.'
When I tried to add these I broke the package. The following are the
portions of the Brother install script's output regarding brscan2.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Attempt to reinstall
(After reverting, I vaguely remember (it was a very late night), to the
original packages.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Does anyone know what this all means, and better yet how to fix it.
BTW. /usr/local/Brother was not found due to an error I made placing the
install directory tree in the directory data. i.e. data/usr/local/Brother …
P.S. I've manually removed /data and all it contained. Though the files
in /var/lib/dpkg/info … are still there. Could they be causing the problem?
