It wasn't xmessage. The dialogue I am talking about opened
automatically (is not in my script) and allowed me to input my ssh
key's passphrase.

xmessage was already installed in 20.04. I have a list of the
additional packages that I've installed and x11-utils is not one of
them - so it seems that xmessage is installed by default? But x11-utils
may have been pulled in as a dependency by one of the others I
installed.

I've found various other candidates though - pinentry for example, or
zenity. But what I don't get is what *started* the input? What made it
pop up?

Regards, K.

PS: While I do appreciate the thought, I won't be installing
executables sent to me in mailing lists :-)
