Cant you just go into your "software and updates" settings, and set the
"when there are security updates" and "when there are other updates"
to "display immediately", and not to "download and install
immediately"?
For some reason I recall "unattended upgrades" not actually
downloading and installing anything by default, and that you need to
edit a config file for all of your updates (not just security) to be
upgraded without your knowing?
