What does Waterfox collect and report back to System1?
FWIW they own Startpage, too, see https://system1.com/what-we-do .
They are much likely dishonest sharks. This probably applies to almost
all maintained professional quality software projects offered to
end users for quasi free as in beer, including the Mozilla project. A
Webbrowser is way more bloated, than an operating system.
If you compare FLOSS software for end users that grants privacy, with
non-free proprietary software, that doesn't grant much privacy and for
that you often still need to pay a lot of money, you'll notice, that
almost all of this FLOSS software is decades behind the proprietary
software. IOW you very often pay for FLOSS software that grants privacy
and that is for free as in beer by living under a rock. In the end
nothing is for free. There are some domains that doesn't allow one or
the other end user to live under a rock, hence there is no choice at
all.
