That's what "--purge" does when uninstalling the browser. It doesn't
hurt to check afterwards that e.g., ./mozilla/firefox is really gone.

Seriously - just uninstall the browser with "--purge" and reinstall it.
Optionally record any customisations and bookmarks first so you can
recreate them later.
If you are skilled enough to know better, you don't need our advice :-)
