That too! But a language that installs without the ability to run its
own setup routines does seem to suffer from a lack of forethought. Plus
the Mint maintainers appear not to have been given a copy of the
setuptools package.

When I evaluated Python — umm...some 20 years ago — I was guided by a
good friend who had written a book on the language. One of the first
things I discovered — I thought — was that system variables were
constructed as __@@var@@__ But it was a long time ago and my memory
isn't what it was, so my apologies to Pythonistas for slandering their
language. Python itself leads a blameless existence: it just didn't do
what I wanted to do, the way I wanted to do it, at the time, which was
unexpected.
