In the past "One account for everything on Ubuntu" sometimes was a
PITA, but it improved a lot. Nowadays, "Ubuntu One" in my experiences
usually works more or less without issues.
I easily could log in after clicking the link
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1893964 , using
an "Ubuntu One" account.
There are a lot of things I dislike related to Ubuntu, even "Ubuntu
One" a few years back belongs to that things. However, nowadays "Ubuntu
One" almost all of the times does a very, very good jobs.
Give it a try! It's just one additional passphrase for many Ubuntu
related things.

Again, in the past it was a PITA, but nowadays it's usually very
pleasant, exactly working around your concern ;).
