Losing ssh connection during apt upgrade

I don't think I would risk doing an ubuntu version upgrade via ssh,
unless I absolutely had no option, and unless there was a plan B in
case it went horribly wrong.  I think version upgrade is significantly
riskier than package updates, which is what I was asking about.
