Problems starting after installation.

This problem can apparently be worked around.

On startup, the main login screen appears to stop loading. I can switch
with Alt-Tab-F2 to the second login session and then switch back with
Alt-Tab-F1 whereupon the cursor stops flashing and after perhaps several
seconds one is presented with the desktop manager's login screen and normal
operation resumes.

The system will behave this way if I restart the computer, but this
behaviour will not be observed if I reawaken it from standby.
