Rsync is deadly for that kind of thing. That is why I recommended GParted. ;-)

No no no!
During install, you can click "something else" on the partitioning
screen and point the partitioner to whatever existing partitions you
want to use.
E.g. I point /windows to my Win10 partition.
This was it sorts out all the permissions for you.
If you do it after the event, as you discovered, you 100% *will* get
access and permissions problems.
