I'm sorry I did not answer the questions
I have not so far managed to get it to run long enough to install & enable SSH
I did not realise that syslog is persistant (between sessions) I'm not sure
what I should look for, I do note that the timings in syslog don't tally with
the actual times as I remember them, they seem quicker
