On old crt based monitors, yes. On modern lcd, not so easy that I worry
about it. Later versions of linuxcnc have been disabling the screen
blanker entirely because it mucks with the latency of the kernel, and in
two+ years of 24/7 operation I have not noted any screen degradation
altho one of them is an old Samsung tv whose tuner died 8 or 9 years
ago, uses a CCFL backlight thats getting dim after 14 years, it is not
otherwise damaged. I could probably replace the elecrotylics in the CCFL
power supply and restore its brightness. But thats about project #42.
Modern lcd's mnitors, with LED backlights run on less than 12 watts. I
leave them on.
