Hi Colin,

More observation from today:-
Using a SanDisk Cruzer Blade (called HERMES) USB flash drive.
If the drive does not automount (is that the right word?), start Nautilus
(file manager) and click on HERMES to mount the flash drive.

Sods law - when I tried it today, the first time, it worked.

So I carried on using the system and it eventually did not automount. So I
had to do something like 'sudo dmesg | tail -30'

Note that the second last line in both examples says "Mounted /dev/sdb1 at
/media/rene/HERMES".

Now I am really confused.

However, the GNOME Notifications -beeping when HERMES is plugged in -
beeping when unmounted from Nautilus seem to be my most accurate indicator
of this fault. If a device does not automount, you don't get the beep on
plugging it in. Could this be a GNOME issue?

HTH,

Ian
