The hard drive could be heard spinning up, American Megatrends appeared
briefly on the monitor, computer went down again. No flash installer
drive, normal boot into 21.10 off the hard drive. Tried it every which
way, wouldn't boot with a Mate installer plugged in.

Tried it again just now, Mate installer plugged into the USB, pushed
the power button and the darn thing booted 21.10 off the hard drive.
Power down, pushed the button again, pressed ESC to get into settings
and got it booted off the USB and gave me the graphical installer. Same
flash drive, same content as before.

I have no explanation. It's usually blamed on the gremlins. Maybe the
gremlins decided to go hunting haggis while I was getting some dinner.

Too late I think to go running the installer tonight. Might give it a
go in the morning.

I'm running my spare server board, the Jetway NF9W-2930, fanless, 12V
industrial board. 4G RAM. No such delays ever experienced.
