That wouldn't surprise me at all. Weird things get done with cables.
For example, anyone here ever tried shortening a telephone line cord
with the white "BT" plug that goes in the wall socket? You have to
cross over wires 1+2 and 3+4 before shoving them into the back of the
new BT plug and crimping it otherwise it won't work! Why? Sounds to me
like a bodge done to overcome a PCB layout cock up some four decades
ago. Off topic I know but I thought it might amuse or enlighten
somebody.
