I've been using Evolution with maildir ever since I stopped using KDE,
which was a while ago. Never had a problem with it apart from it
sometimes putting up silly warning messages which might just be due to
timing issues while filtering messages from the inbox to destination
folders. Maybe. Also it seems somewhat slow sometimes but maybe that is
due to me using quite old client machines (a 12 years old Toshiba
netbook which I'm using now or a 15 years old AMD X2 desktop) and my
server which now has I believe a quad core Celeron that only pulls 12W
including the HDD.
On balance though I'm perfectly happy to continue using Evolution. I
never use anything of it apart from the mail and contacts though so
maybe it would be a nice touch if the calendar, tasks and memos were
modules of some sort that could be optionally installed or removed.
I use the desktop computer as my master copy of everything that's not
kept on the server, such as my contacts list. It's nice that I can
easily export either all of or individual contacts to a standard format
(vcf) file that I copied onto my new phone a few years ago when I
bought my first Android device and it all imported into Android
contacts perfectly.
A quick Google enquiry reveals Geary and Sylpheed which are in the
repos. Has anybody tried these, I'd also be interested to know?
