Hi,
testing a Linux or any other UNIX alike install (or any other
operating system, e.g. Windows) can't be done by just running one kind
of tool kit. Even when running one kind of tool kit, a check should be
done by another software of that kind, too. For example use chkrootkit
and in addition use rkhunter. However, it doesn't make much sense to
test if something is already infected. It's better to test in the first
place, if it's possible to attack a system and if so, to close the
security hole. You can do this by using a penetration testing
distribution, such as https://blackarch.org/index.html or
https://www.kali.org/ . The virus scan approach is snake oil from the
Windows home computer realm. Actually Windows computers are those, that
get locked and the only way to unlock those computers is to pay the
intruders/blackmailers.
Those penetration tests require a lot of knowledge. If you aren't a
"hacker", you can't do the testing.
