File content indexer for Ubuntu?

Hello Ubuntu users.

I want to index the contents of files in a directory tree. I found recoll
<https://www.fossmint.com/recoll-file-text-search-tool-for-linux/> - a
utility that appears to do the job and also has a GUI to make the novice
experience less threatening - but the installation instructions seem
perhaps too bespoke for something I would have thought was a feature that
was popular enough to be available as a package from the Ubuntu Software
centre. Is there anything else?
