Hi,

does the Esc-key work? IOW after pushing Esc, do you see startup
messages? If so, what messages do you see?

The guest, the host, both? Not that I have any knowledge about zfs and
raid, but maybe it's useful to mention what virtual storage is used.
VDI, something else, a special image write mode?

That's what snapshots are for, assuming those are possible. If for any
reason snapshots are impossible to do or to manage, a regular backup of
the partition/s of the VDI or whatever else is used should be done,
before things break.

Btw. one very banal reason that renders snapshots useless, is not enough
disk space to handle snapshots. A VDI or something else and a snapshot
might fit to a disk, but for merging there might be not enough free
disk space.

The more geek stuff you are doing, the more reliable it probably is to
use QUEMU/KVM or something else instead of Virtualbox.

Did the guest not start after upgrading packages by the guest and/or
host? Did you shutdown the guest before it fails to finish startup or
did you just power off?

Your very special setup might exceed the skills of almost all
subscribers of this list, consider to send a request to an Oracle
forum/mailing list.

Regards,
Ralf
