I have never wittingly used ZFS - it is too advanced for me.

The cow thing was in the leftmost column of the df -h output ;
/cow

Out of interest, as I was getting nowhere with the 21.10 iso in the
live mode, I rebooted the computer into a 20.,10 installation, and it
appears to be working okay.
