Boot it off an older USB stick and see if it keeps rebooting? Maybe
this has nothing to do with the installed version of Ubuntu. It may
have just started happening regardless, and where there is only
correlation we are all seeing causation.
Wondering if memory corruption could cause this kind of sudden exit
stage left. Maybe the newer OS is tickling something the older one left
alone. Maybe loading the desktop moves things away from the hot spot.
I really have no clue :-)
