well, you should indeed look at the source of the tools and learn to
understand what they do, it will teach you how the android boot process
with fastboot work which is essential knowledge you will need way
before even tinkering with any kernel patches ... this is why i wrote
"you might need to look into the source code of the tools used" ...
there is no easy way here, it is a very steep learning curve to get to
understand what you are doing before doing it ...
