Hi,

k3b is a multi tool. It can be used to e.g. rip audio CDs, but after
using it something keeps running in the background. I noticed it the
time when I used a green drive. After using k3b something waked up the
green drive each time it was in standby mode. While I don't care for
green drives anymore, I still dislike running background processes that
aren't needed.

xfburn is what I use, if I want to burn something. It's not a multi-
tool, but it's a lightweight burn application and to my knowledge
nothing keeps running after using it.

IIRC I removed brasero, because it didn't work without gvfs. I installed
empty dummy package that fulfil dependencies against gvfs, but don't
provide it. Gvfs is also such a thing that runs in the background. It
wakes up green drives, but the main point is, it's another unneeded
process running in the background.

I can't comment on cdrskin.

In a nutshell. For special tasks, e.g. making a backup of a bought audio
CD, I'm using k3b. To burn a CD or DVD I would use xfburn, but I
wouldn't burn an install media anymore, since I prefer
https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html over
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_garbage_patch .

Ralf
