Hi,

related to some research at least I can be more specific.

I haven't looked for the best prices yet and didn't calculate the PSU. I
want an oversized PSU, but it shouldn't be way to oversized.

Any comments on those components are welcome.

CPU
====
Intel Core i3-13100, 4C/8T, 3.40-4.50GHz, boxed
13. Generation (Raptor Lake-S)
Intel® UHD Graphics
LGA 1700
149.65 €

Note, I care for power consumption of the CPU. This one is TDP 60-89 W.
I'm in favour of < 60 W and don't tolerate >= 90 W.

Mobo
====
GIGABYTE B660 DS3H    DDR4 (1700) without Wireless & Bluetooth

AMD Wi-Fi 6E RZ608 (MT7921K) l
WIFI a, b, g, n, ac, ax, supporting 2.4/5/6 GHz carrier frequency bands
BLUETOOTH 5.2
Support for 11ax 80MHz wireless standard and up to 1.2 Gbps data rate

The device is supported by kernel versions 5.17 and newer according to
the LKDDb, unfortunately I try to stay wit 4.19-rt kernels, since for
newer rt-patched kernels DKMS might not build VBox modules. I can't say
for sure for 5.17.

pro Enables or disables UEFI CSM (Compatibility Support Module) to

con There seems to be no option to turn of WiFi and Bluetooth

SSD
===
KIOXIA EXCERIA SSD 1TB, NVMe
95.50 €
M.2-2280-Formfaktor
PCIe®-Gen3-x4-Lane

It is not listed by the mobo's "Qualified Vendors List", but the TOSHIBA
OCZ RD400 RVD-M22280-512G (M.2 2280, PCIe 3.0 x4 32Gb/s512GB 2280 Gen3
x4) is listed.

In addition I will use 5 of my old SATA SSDs (all TOSHIBA OCZ and
KIOXIA), 2 of them with my old PCIe to SATA controller. Since my old DVD
drive isn't in an optimal condition, I will buy one of the cheapest
drives. Not the cheapest, but still one of the cheapest is an
ASUS DRW-24D5MT (I read about M-Disc support for the very first time). I
will buy this or something similar for <= 20.00 € (I don't care for
M-Disc, LightScribe would be nice, but it doesn't exist anymore).

RAM
===
GSkill RipjawsV Kit of 2 F4-3200C16D-32GVK 79.20 €
listet as compatible is F4-3200C16D-16GVKB, I suspect it's the single
version of the kit version

PSU and case
============
This time I need a new case for two reasons, I will keep my old machine
and the old case is in a bad condition, actually already unsuitable for
my current mobo.

Regarding the PSU I consider to buy something oversized and energy
efficient like the Argus GPS-800, ATX, 80+ Gold, 800 W, 72.80 € or a
cheaper one as a 700 W XILENCE XN046 Xilence XP700 Performance C
47.95 €.

The cheapest cases with lots of space for drives and 2 USB 3 front ports
provided by the shop I buy most of my cables, soldering tin etc..

Who knows how durable those USB ports are? The USB 3 front ports are not
necessarily needed, since a separated front-panel does cost around
10.00 €.

Inter-Tech Midi-Tower IT-5905 41.95 €
Sharkoon VS4-V ATX Gehäuse    50.95 €

I like the look of the cheaper case better, than the look of the other
case.

Depending where I would order those or similar components, it would be
around 149.65€+129.90€+95.50€+20.00€+79.20€+72.80€+41.95€= 589.00 €
                                                           ========

For me that is a lot of money. However, AMD isn't less expensive, it
does cost more or less the same, but might provide more computing power
and consume less electrical power.

My current PC is a dual-core 6.60.3 Intel Celeron CPU G1840 2.80GHz, the
mobo is a GIGABYTE GA-B85M-D3H, RAM 16 GiB, with two sound cards, for
audio and MIDI a PCIe RME HDSPe AIO and for MIDI only a PCI
TerraTec EWX24/96. With a new mobo I can only use the PCIe card or I
need to test, if a PCIe to PCI adapter card doesn't cause issues such as
MIDI jitter.

Regards,
Ralf
