Ah, thanks. I would not have thought to look there.

The machine is a Dell XPS 8930 with built-in Intel graphics and an
internal NVIDIA Corporation GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 6GB] card. The
firmware does not allow me to disable the Intel graphics.

I think I'll let things be. I don't want to go down that rabbit hole.
