That is why I tried with two different sets of headphones.
Weirdly enough, it was the right hand channel that was missing with one
set, and, the left hand channel with the other set.
I have just checked, and both channels are present ("and correct" :) )
with Celluloid, and, with SMPlayer.
Perhaps, however, it may be time to replace the headphones that I have
been using.
It was that the problem apparently coincided with the update of
pulseaudio, that led me to believe that it was caused by the updating of
the pulseaudio package.
