22.04 impossibly slow with failing links

Out of 51 packages it seems most are returning this now:

Err:1 https://us.archieve.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 (file names)
Temporary failure resolving 'us.archieve.ubuntu.com'


But some do connect.

In the UK today I experienced no problems doing this:
* This morning a downloaded the daily live iso - no problems - also 
installed some applications - LibreOffice, g++ etc
* I installed the iso on my ThinkPad T500 with no problems

* This evening I did a software update (about 50MB) and a snap refresh of 
chromium
