Flash drives fails automount on Jammy

I run Xubuntu 22.04.4 LTS fully updated with Ubuntu Pro enabled.

Last night, I had problems with one of my USB flash drives - it was
taking forever to read or write anything (more than five minutes). I
set up a new one to match, and that worked fine. They are matching
Sandisk Ultra Flair 32gb flash drives, fat32 (exfat) format (I need
this to work on Linux and Windows machines both).

I ran an overnight badblocks check on the old one. This morning, the
badblocks check showed over 29 million bad blocks. Oy.

However, this morning, NO flash drives are recognized *and mounted*
upon plug-in. This NEVER used to be a problem, particularly after I
rebooted the machine, which I did. Still no automount. I checked the
drive on my laptop, and it works perfectly.

I have made no (zero) hardware changes between last night and this
morning, and no updates have appeared as yet today.

WTF???
