I am definitely consistent when it comes to dismounting USB sticks every
time.
Every time I need to unmount a USB memory stick, I use Nautilus (GNOME's
File Manager) and wait for the prompt that tells me it is safe to remove
the drive.
Note: The messages for "Safe to remove drive" and "Please do not remove
drive" look _almost_ identical.
Another note: Sometimes I run the command "journalctl -f" to see kernel
messages as to what is going on whilst I am doing all this.
On occasion, I have used the command "time sync" just to get timing
information on how much time was spent writing stuff to the USB memory
stick and then I unmount it using Nautilus as normal.
BW,
Ian
