I don't think so.
I don't get a terminal at all. I get a hang at the end of the GUI load
(console 7) which is complaining about:
Started Detect the available GPUs and deal with any system changes.
Finished Detect the available GPUs and deal with any system changes.
AND I never get the login screen or prompt. Yes, I can go to another
console andlogin, but as I said, the font is tiny and a royal pain to
read, and I don't know how to increase the virtual console font size.
There are a ton of messages in /var/log/syslog around the time this
occurred, but this message also appears when I go back to the previous
kernel boot, which comes up just fine.
I also note (OT) that the bluetooth activates as well - I thought I
disabled that too.
I also have found this:
$ apt-cache search nvidia | grep driver | wc -l
1237
That number is not encouraging, as there are many different versions
and I'm not entirely sure which ones to remove/purge:
libnvidia-extra-470
linux-modules-nvidia-390-*
linux-modules-nvidia-418-*
linux-modules-nvidia-435-*
linux-modules-nvidia-440-*
linux-modules-nvidia-450-*
linux-modules-nvidia-455-*
linux-modules-nvidia-460-*
linux-modules-nvidia-465-*
linux-modules-nvidia-470-*
linux-modules-nvidia-510-*
nvidia-driver-418/430/435/440...
And on and on.
I can't even tell which driver I am running that works, just that it's
not apparently the nouveau driver.
It's bewildering and I admit I'm lost. I do not feel safe just purging
all those drivers and linux-modules-* drivers, if that's even
possible. (Is it?)
???
