bootable thumb drive issue

One of my laptops Ive not updated in a while and its having issues so I was
just going to download and install 24.10 and mess with it. Im on Kubuntu
24.04 and Ive repeatedly tried the Startup Disk Creator
which seems to move the iso over but.. when you try to boot from it ..
nothing. So I tried on a few
different systems and its the same problem - like there is nothing on the
drive. But, if I boot those
systems up and look on the drive - I can see the files are there.

So I tried running the creator again.
I tried dd - same problem.
I tried Kubuntu 22.04 that I have - had them both open side by side on my
computer and I went
file by file looking to see if permissions were different - files
missing... no difference.

But - if I boot from my usb with 22.04 it works and 24.10 will not.
I tried several different thumb drive with no change.
I downloaded 22.10 again, no change.
I found 24.04 and wrote it - works fine.

What am I missing here?
