Migrating from 20.04 -> 22.04 -> 24.04 on headless Ubuntu server + hardware upgrade

HUH ??

what makes you think there are any snaps on ubuntu-server beyond the
installer ? 

here is the manifest file of the current 24.04 server images:

https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/noble/daily-live/current/noble-live-server-amd64.manifest

(snaps go at the end in these files)

while there is the installer snap (subiquity), there are no snaps
installed by default on ubuntu-server installations (subiquity is not
being installed on the target), snapd and core24 will stay around
though in case you *want to install any snaps later* but you can just
remove both of them if you feel like...
