mysql dir/file issue

Hi.

Regarding mysql/innodb, I can do a mysqldump to a file, copy the file
to another server, and handle the sql to "copy" the database.

I'm curious, could you essentially "copy" the "dirs" within the
/var/lib/mysql to get the database "dirs" and copy them over to the
tgt server assuming the servers had same os version?

As a test, I renamed the /var/lib/mysql/mysql to mysql2 and
restarted.. no diff! I would have thought it would have barfed.
