Can no longer send gmail from Thunderbird

Thank you for reading this.

I've been using gmail and Thunderbird for years and now, as from yesterday,
outgoing gmail no longer works. No problem with incoming mail. There was a
recent Thunderbird update, I wonder if that's the cause?

I've checked my Thunderbird account settings and gmail setting but nothing
seems to have been changed.

Is anyone else having this problem all of a sudden? An Internet search
doesn't reveal any new problems.
