ssh login --

here's the sshd_config from the working/test machine. root login is
fine for testing.. I more or less shut the box down when not using it,
so I'm not too worried about attacks.. (i know, a bit foolish..)

my issue though.. is I've only got the one local machine I use to
interface with the DO instances.. so wouldn't cloning, give the same
actions in the new clone?

I did discover than the /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/50--* file had been
changed.. so I changed it to match the initial instance with a ssh
restart ... still no change in logging in..

cat /etc/ssh/sshd_config

# This is the sshd server system-wide configuration file. See
# sshd_config(5) for more information.

# This sshd was compiled with
PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games

# The strategy used for options in the default sshd_config shipped with
# OpenSSH is to specify options with their default value where
# possible, but leave them commented. Uncommented options override the
# default value.
