An excellent start :-)
Newbie to Linux, or newbie to computers in general? If computers in
general I would also suggest:
- don't treat it roughly
- transport it in a bag
- suspend or turn off when not in use
- avoid dust
- do not click on attachments in emails
- do not believe anything you read on the Internet
- keep separate copies of anything you don't want to lose

Well, it'll transport just fine provided it's in a good padded bag, not
just knocking around loose. Don't let it be visible though (it'll get
stolen), or be in direct sunlight (it'll melt).
Regards, K.
