It has been upgraded (do-release-upgrade) for a while, lastly from 23.10 (to
beta 24.04 release) it has been stable "most" of the time (at least since 24.04
was released)
it has been upgraded almost daily, some days more has changed than others

It's Unity (which I did say) and Xorg, AFAICS no choice for Wayland (yet?)
It will help folks troubleshoot the problem with you. Otherwise, you

"After" I delete .config and reboot, all is well, apart from having to re-do
all the changes, (lock and set sizes of icons in launcher, set wallpaper etc)
