Don't bother. The main OEMs only sell M$ machines. And only know M$. No
help there. (Yes, *some* sell Ubuntu laptops, but only specific models and
from a hard to get to part of their sites -- look under business sales.)

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=thinkpad+laptop+17%22&_sacat=0&toolid 004&mkcid=1&campidS38192028&kw=thinkpad+laptop&mkridq1-53200-19255-0
Virtually any Thinkpad that is a few years old should work out-of-the-box.
*Possibly* older Dells might work, but not certain. Much older machines might
work (eg with enough "age" drivers/firmware for the WiFi will have been back
ported). At this point the only hardware issues will be WiFi. All other
hardware will either be generic (eg SATA, USB) or standardized API (video,
sound).
The above search list does include a few 17" Thinkpads. Generally older
models. It is frequent that corp. hand-me-downs show up. These are often
high-quality machines that are 3-5+ years old. Nothing wrong with them -- it
is just corp. taxes issues: laptops are good for a 3-5 year depreciation, so
corps dump their 3-5 year old laptops once the depreciation period runs out
and buy new ones, this allows them a tax deduuction for the depreciation.
