All Linux distros have had a major usability problem for new users, in that
the screen goes completely blank at one or more stages during boot. This
means the user has absolutely zero idea of what state the system is in,
sometimes for many minutes on end. The addition of a progress bar, or some
phrases describing what it is doing, would be a major contribution towards
new user acceptance.
