An idiosyncratic read, with some excellent footnotes! A little dated
now.
There are two kinds of password systems in the world - those I
recommend in general, and those I use myself.
- My passwords are excessively long and genuinely random
- My passwords are "written down" (stored in an encrypted "wallet")
- I don't change passwords I create unless forced to
- I change all default passwords
- I don't attempt to remember passwords
- I don't re-use passwords
- I don't share passwords
- I turn on MFA wherever it is offered
I appreciate that not everyone is me.
To people who ask, I say "Get a password manager, let it choose your
passwords. Don't share passwords, don't re-use passwords, use MFA
wherever you can. Good luck". It's not that different, I suppose.
