No, seriously, you're right.

I was typing on a Mac as I am now so I couldn't immediately check. I
am in the middle of moving house and all my NAS boxes and test laptops
are in boxes... somewhere.

TBH I normally use:

sudo -s
apt update ; apt full-upgrade

More correct and better is:

apt update && apt full-upgrade.

`;` just moves from one command to another.

`&&` only continues if the prior step concludes successfully.
