Well, after wiping the HDD with random data, I started an install of Ubuntu
24.04.1 (using a Ventoy stick). The install worked like a charm.
During the install, I looked for Japanese keyboard layouts and was
presented with 2 choices:
* Japanese
* Japanese (PC-98)
After some deliberation, I went for the "Japanese" layout and that seems to
have worked. I will get the gentleman who donated it to have a try of the
system, to see if the keyboard choice made sense.
The system is working fine, now :)
