TECO is before my time.  However I will somewhat date myself by saying
that the first Emacs I used was not GNU Emacs, it was Gosling Emacs,
which used a C-like syntax in its extension language, rather than Lisp.

To confuse things, though, I started hacking way younger than was
"normal" back then :).  My father was a Math & Comp.Sci. professor and
didn't mind me tagging along and poking at things, so I had access to
more resources than most.
