FWIW

Debian and Ubuntu dropped auto-apt.
Debian and Ubuntu still provide apt-file.

The snipped is from a script that "I used to use".

The whole point is that running

  sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

is needed and 

  sudo apt autoremove

is useful, but how to handle the cache depends, so depending on your
needs, there's might be nothing wrong with using apt autoclean .

My point was and still is, that the "-y" option is always wrong, while a
reboot is only required sometimes.
