I once refurbished a laptop in which the internal WiFi was not PCI based -
internal WiFi was USB based. It was a long time ago.

At the time I used a GUI programme, hardinfo, to find out more - in
particular, the "Devices" option which in turn has options for "PCI
Devices" and "USB Devices"..

These days I'd use the terminal command ifconfig (with no parameters) to
find out more. Sharing the output of that command might be fruitful.
