It's a bit old but my go-to reminder for the once-every-5-years times I
need to look at ssh is

It steps through enough of the information to help understand what you're
doing and why.

If you're keen on keeping passwords you should probably also look at
fail2ban - https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-fail2ban/

I'm sure there are better links out there but I found those ones explain
enough as you go to understand what you're doing when you don't do it every
day.
