Using GParted via TigerVNC how to enable on LinuxMint?

I have two headless linux desktop machines that behave differently and I am not
sure why...

I access these two the same way via RealVNC Viewer on my Windows PC and they
both run TigerVNC, wich connects in both cases. It uses display :1
They look pretty much the same via VNC but...

1) Recently upgraded Ubuntu 24.04.1 with the MATE desktop on an HP laptop.
Here I can start the VNC session and get to the desktop and from there start
GParted to view the drives on that machine.

This device is in my home office on the local LAN.

2) Linux Mint 20.3 on an HP mini-pc also running the MATE desktop.
Here I can start the VNC session and get to the desktop.
But when I start the GParted application from the "Administration" submenu it
does not run, just shows a rotating "ball" for a while and then disappears.

This device is in my summer home and accessed via an OpenVPN connection which
binds the two LAN:s together as one.

I believe LinuxMint is based on Ubuntu so tha is why I ask here hoping for some
clues as to what I can do to get it working...

Where can I find any clues as to why they operate differently?
