Thank you for the information.

The 32G sticks were SanDisk, as is the 128G stick. That's about all I can
tell you of the 32G sticks because I took to each in turn with a hammer and
got on with my life; the catharsis was sweet.

I think that perhaps, as people are generally moving (like cattle) to cloud
storage, the manufacturers may be lowering the quality of their sticks
because they are becoming single use items.
