On an arm64 system with a full desktop armbian install, it can be done 
on 8gb but will have short life due to so much of that drive u-sd being 
used. 16 Gb is better, and 64Gb lasts for decades.  The u-sd must have 
spare space to do its housekeeping.  They also benefit greatly from only 
being powered down by power failures, and use so little power that 
leaving them run while idle is entirely feasible.
